6 dicas para se levantar depois de ser derrubado
The other week, I got some disappointing news at the doctor’s. I have to be honest, it caught me off guard and knocked me down. It also got me thinking about life, the punches it can throw, and how to get back up with strength, conviction and authenticity.
Here are 6 tips for standing back up after being knocked down:
1. Let yourself feel it
It’s okay to be sad, scared, angry, disappointed and confused. No it’s more than that — it’s healthy. Sit in that place for a moment, really feel it, and refrain from self judgment. Those emotions are real and it’s important to let yourself feel them.
2. Allow others to help
You don’t have to cope alone, but nobody can help if they don’t know. Be open and honest with the people you love and trust most. Let them in. I’m willing to bet that you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much they care. Love and support are mighty powerful, and most things are more manageable when you tackle them as a team.
3. Take it one step at a time
You don’t need all the answers. You just need to put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward.
4. Humor helps
Ok, so it sucks. There’s no doubt about that. Still, you’d be surprised how sometimes the craziest joke about a totally un-funny topic can diffuse a moment and give you a desperately needed reprieve.
5. Lay out your options and plan the way forward
Don’t fixate on things that are out of your control. It’s a waste of time and energy. Focus on the things you can do. You’ll get much farther and feel much better. I guarantee it.
6. Buckle up, chin up, and journey on
Life can take you on all sorts of unplanned twists and turns. Take a seat, strap yourself in, and do everything in your power to make it the best ride you can. It turns out that sometimes unexpected paths end up being the most beautiful.
